Taking place across Edinburgh over the Easter holidays, the Edinburgh Science Festival is a sixteen-day celebration of STEM. This science extravaganza includes hands-on workshops and interactive shows for families, in-depth exhibitions, discussion events and the sell-out, adults-only Science Nights Out.
Each year, the programme includes around 130 events taking place in iconic venues throughout Edinburgh and the surrounding area, attracting a diverse audience ranging from Edinburgh locals to international visitors.
I thought all the workshops were brilliant, the staff were all so engaging and brought the science to life for the children. It was also really well organised with a great mix of activities.

The Impact
The mission of the Edinburgh Science Festival is to inspire, encourage and challenge people of all ages and backgrounds to explore the world around them.
Festival events bring science to life for our visitors, breaking down barriers to STEM and showcasing the central role science plays in our everyday lives and the world around us. The majority of our visitors have medium or low science capital, indicating we’re reaching those who don’t usually engage with STEM subjects. Feedback from visitors demonstrates that Science Festival events build upon science capital.

Making Science Accessible
At a time when the cost of living is so high, cost should not be a barrier to people attending Edinburgh Science Festival. Thanks to our funders, around half of the events in the programme are completely free to attend.
We are committed to ensuring that every visitor to the Festival has an excellent experience. We programme BSL interpreted events and relaxed sessions, provide sensory backpacks and have a designated Quiet Space at our pop-up family science venue.
